1st Annual Frank Flood Family Reunion...a weekend of close calls!

It all began on Wednesday with the first arrivals. The day brought rain with the Bowron-Floods (Chris, Steph, Emily, & Nicholas) arriving from Rochester. Thursday they went treasure hunting (geo-caching) and drove up to Crandon for lunch and swimming. It rained in the afternoon...Thank goodness for the portable DVD player! Anne and Alice arrived late Thursday - after an interesting flight for Anne from Vegas.

Friday, a bunch more of the gang came up! Tim, Sally, Kiwi, and Po joined us early...Jackie hitched a ride with them too! Dan and Sally arrived shortly thereafter. Some of us went to Crystal Lake for a beautiful afternoon of swimming - then to the Firelight for fish fry! We sat around the campfire, made s'mores and the yummy caramel cracker thingys! We enjoyed lots of singing without the bugs! As the fire fizzled, the Bob Floods (Bob, Linda, Sam, Margaret, David, Theresa, John Thomas, Josiah, Penny, & Mr. Bill) arrived - now it's PARTY TIME! We actually welcomed them as we headed to bed.

Saturday morning was sunny and bright! Kevin and Peter brought 50 lbs. of brats and lots of food for breakfast - YUM! Mary brought Grandpa and they were ready for lunch! Many of us swam and played in the lake for most of the day! Chris, Sam, and the boys spent 4 hours out on the raft! Nicholas took an unexpected swim, but Daddy was there to save him! Mary was so excited to show the boys how well she could throw that she fell right on her butt on the dock...I wasn't there, but I heard it was pretty funny...only because she wasn't hurt! She's a trooper and laughed it off! Some of us went to church with Grandpa. Those that stayed behind cooked a feast fit for the Floods (chili, corn, cookies, pie, etc.)! Thank goodness the bathroom is not outside anymore (or maybe we wish it was)! After dinner, some (too many) of us decided to take the pontoon out for a sunset cruise. Just beyond the floating dock, an error in weight distribution (due to chili and beer?) caused the boat to take on an unwanted amount of water. I guess 9 adults and 3 kids just work on the pontoon. At one point, the entire deck was under water - oops! Our hearts were racing, but don't worry, Chris saved is chili and beer from spilling or falling overboard! Mary had it all under control - especially her wine. We safely made it to shore and decided a campfire was more our style, but the question is...will Alice ever go on another boat ride? Sally welcomed us with survivor cookies made by John Thomas and the other kiddos. Campfire treats and songs were great although an errant firework thrown by Peter almost took out Margaret and Theresa. That sure was an exciting ending to a terrific day at the cottage.

Sunday woke us with smoke alarms from George's cabin. They found out pretty quickly that burning plastic doesn't smell very good. All was okay and again - Mary had it all under control! We ate breakfast for lunch after Danny and Chris took Grandpa fishing! Grandpa had a ball and even drank a BEER! He can't wait for his next trip up North!  This is the first of many Frank Flood Family reunions up north and many more memories to come!

For all of you who didn't make it this year...you were there in our hearts, prayers and conversations! I can't wait for the next one! Love you all!
